Homemade Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Quick and Easy Homemade Cinnamon Rolls by Chic 'n Savvy
I've always loved cinnamon rolls, but I admit, if you find them around my home, they are usually store-bought or baked out of a Pillsbury refrigerated canister.

Even though I love to bake, previously, I had never found a cinnamon roll recipe that I liked.  Needless to say, I was thrilled when I came across this quick & easy homemade cinnamon rolls recipe by Kelsey on Chic 'n Savvy.

A delicious recipe is always appreciated in my kitchen.  A quick & easy recipe is treasured!  My family happens to love cinnamon rolls for breakfast, but I don't always have hours to invest in making a meal, especially in the morning before everyone leaves for work or school.   This recipe is truly awesome!

The Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Kelsey's cinnamon rolls take less than an hour to mix, roll out, and bake.  They are made with basic ingredients that I typically have on hand.  The only exception would be buttermilk.  Therefore, planning ahead on grocery shopping day might be required.  However, I do want to point out that Kelsey also provides us with a buttermilk recipe for making our own buttermilk if needed.  That makes it a lot easier in a pinch for me since I always have vinegar on hand.

Kelsey gives very easy instructions to follow for mixing, rolling and cutting the cinnamon rolls.  By the time you are finished preparing, baking, and eating your cinnamon rolls, you will feel like a baker extraordinaire and your family will rave over your fantastic kitchen skills.  There is no reason to tell family and friends how easy it is to make this delicious breakfast or treat.

Football Ice Sandwiches for Fun Partytime

Here is an awesome idea for a summer party, team party or really any time for football fans!

Everybody loves ice cream, especially on a hot day.  Ice cream sandwiches are always a popular choice for kids and adults alike.   They are the perfect pool side or party treat.

Ice cream sandwiches decorated to resemble a football would be great as a snack for your little football player.  Or, even the whole team after practice.

These ice cream football sandwiches are not only adorable, but they are really easy to make.

This fun treat recipe was originally published by Kim Byers on The Celebration Shoppe.  She recommended them for a Super Bowl party, which is truly a great suggestion.

I love her idea to draw football plays on the wooden spoons that are used as "sticks" for this ice cream treat.

Ice Cream Football Sandwiches

Kim shares really easy to follow instructions in her article.  You can probably guess how to create these ice cream football sandwiches by simply looking at her photo, but it is still worthwhile to check out her suggestions.  She offers alternate decorating options, as well as freezing and storage tips.  I, myself, was surprised to read that the decorated ice cream sandwiches could last up to 30 minutes.  Of course, I doubt any football player would ever let one sit for that long!  But, you may wish to take the treats to the boys, so it is good to know.

With mini ice sandwiches purchased from the store, a few lines of icing for each sandwich, and wooden spoons, you too can make these totally awesome game day treats.  You will certainly be appreciated and hailed as a very creative mom.  Very cool indeed!

Be sure to check out Kim's other great party ideas, as well as her original recipe online at The Celebration Shoppe.

Christmas Wreath Marshmallow Treats Recipe

Looking for a really fun & easy Christmas treat? You will love this Christmas Wreath Marshmallow Treats recipe! You really can't mess up the design.
If you are looking for a really fun and easy Christmas treat, then you are going to love this Christmas Wreath Marshmallow Treats recipe

You really can't mess the design up, so you could even let the kids help you decorate the wreaths.  Plus, the red and green colors are perfect to serve during the holidays.  They make a really pretty addition to any table.

Whether you are searching for a snack, an appetizer, or a light dessert, these Christmas wreaths would have you covered.  You can also make them ahead of time and freeze them.

Christmas Wreath Marshmallow Treats Recipe

Bev Owens published the recipe for the Christmas Wreath Marshmallow Treats on Review This!  You can find her recipe and all of her great tips there.

I always prefer a recipe that is simple and one that you most often have all the ingredients on hand without having to run to the grocery store.  Since the Marshmallow Christmas Wreaths recipe is a combination of cereal, marshmallows, M&M's, food coloring, butter and vanilla, it is unlikely this recipe would send us out to gather supplies.  Especially at Christmas.  I might not always have M&M's on hand, but I do during the holidays.  I suspect that is true for most of us.

Making & Shaping the Marshmallow Wreath Treats

You can take the time to form these treats in the round wreath shape or you could make it easier on yourself and use the elongated wreath shape shown in the photos.  The elongated wreath really does make a nice cover up for any mistakes too.  A combination of shapes would be truly fantastic and look completely planned too.

This really is a fun recipe for several people to make together.  It is actually good to have helpers since the mixture starts to set pretty quickly as it cools.

Wishing You All A Very Merry Christmas!

Strawberry Popsicles Recipe

Make You Own Strawberry Popsicles!

During the hot summer months, there is nothing better than a popsicle to cool you down inside and out.

Popsicles are a childhood favorite, but most of us still enjoy them as adults.   As a child, we only consider the fantastic taste of a cool treat on a hot day.  The only real difference is that as adults, we think about the ingredients.

Strawberry Popsicle Recipe

I was thrilled to find the recipe for wonderful homemade popsicles.  I love the idea of being able to make my own delicious, healthy, and sugar-free popsicles.  Ester Perez shares her Strawberry Popsicle recipe on NurtureMyGut.com and they are actually easy to make.  Ester's recipe uses lime juice, strawberries and an orange sliced, mixed together and frozen.  She uses vanilla stevia to sweeten the treat.

https://nurturemygut.com/strawberry-popsicles.html

I am sure you can substitute other fruit to make a variety of fruit-sicles that everyone in your family will also love, but do be sure to read about Ester's own personal experiences as she was developing her recipe.  It will save you time and expense.  No one likes to discover that they have wasted not only money, but the actual fruit when a creation is not something you can eat and enjoy.

You can find the complete recipe and directions on Ester's site, Nuture My Gut and start making your own homemade popsicles today!

Making Your Own Popsicles

There are a few supplies you need besides the ingredients to make our own popsicles at home.  Obviously, you need a freezer, but you will also need popsicles molds.  Any other supplies needed will be determined by the molds you select.  Some molds come with reusable plastic sticks.  However, molds that use disposable wooden popsicles sticks are also available.

I, personally, would recommend the Onyx Stainless Steel molds on the right below.  They are the most expensive, but this is an example of how you get what you pay for.   They are more durable and it is easier to remove the frozen popsicles without damaging them.

Marshmallow Jello Pinwheels Recipe

https://i2.wp.com/simpleethrifty.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Marshmallow-Jello-Pinwheels1.png?w=800
If you want a really fun and fast treat to make, then I have the perfect suggestion for you here today on Fun Food!

These Marshmallow Jello Pinwheels are great "pop in your mouth" appetizers, party treats, after school treats, or even lunchbox treats.

Since jello does have to be refrigerated, you would need a Lunch Ice Pack in the lunchbox, but it would certainly be worth that little extra effort.  Your kids would love it and no doubt, their lunch pals would be requesting that you send extras tomorrow.  My children always loved being able to share treats with their friends during lunch at school.  I kept those freezer cubes in the freezer at all times just for these types of special lunch treat.   All I had to do was reach in the freezer and grab one to stick it in their lunchboxes.

Marshmallow Jello Pinwheels Recipe

The Marshmallow Jello Recipe is super easy and takes on a few minutes to whip together.  They are made with the combination of jello and marshmallow as the recipe name indicates.  What really grabbed my attention was the way they are cut into little roll-up treats.  Heidi from Simplee Thrifty, tells us exactly how to easily cut the solidified jello treat into a delicious roll-up finger food.  Her method is "simply thrifty" and nifty!

Check out her recipe and cutting tips to make your own Marshmallow Jello Pinwheels.  The kids will love you for it!

Recommended Lunchbox Cooler Packs

When my children were in elementary school, I used these blue ice packs often, almost daily, to keep the food in their lunchboxes cool.  They really do work!  Just remind your children to leave them in their lunchboxes and not throw them away with their trash.   Once our daughter switched over to lunch sacks instead of a lunchbox, I inserted the little ice pack in a homemade fabric sleeve so she could throw away the sack, but keep the blue ice in her backpack to bring home.  However, a baggie for the blue ice pack would work just fine too.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Popsicle Recipe

https://glitternspice.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/chunky-monkey-popsicles-5.png
School has started and everyday our children come home hot and tired.  Day after day we watch our kids make a bee line for the refrigerator and freezer searching for something to cool them down quickly.  I have found the perfect cold afternoon treat!

These Chunky Monkey popsicles can be made in advance and left in the freezer for those precious hands to easily grab.  The kids will love them and so will you because they are so fast & easy to make.

How to Make Chunky Monkey Popsicles

I call them Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Popsicles because they are made with peanut butter,  chocolate and bananas, but the creator of these popsicles dubbed them Chunky Monkey Popsicles.  Perhaps, Chunky Monkey is an easier title.  Regardless of the title, they are simply delicious.

Corrinna has featured the recipe for her Chunky Monkey Popsicles on her Glitter 'N' Spice website, which happens to be one of my own favorite sites to visit.  She has given us very easy instructions to follow and also featured the needed Pop Maker to make the popsicles.  Since it only takes about 10 minutes for the popsicles to freeze, you could even make them right before the children get home so they will be ready and waiting.

Corrinna has also included a Magic Shell Chocolate Coating recipe in case you wish to dip your pops in chocolate and maybe even nuts.

Come to think of it, you just might want to make them long before the kids get home from school.  But please, do be kind enough to leave one for each child.

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

Homemade Ice Cream SandwichWith the heat of the summer, many of us are craving ice cream and something we can easily hold instead of scoops in a bowl.  This homemade ice cream sandwich recipe looks like the perfect summer ice cream treat.

I remember my childhood days and playing outside.  Every child in the neighborhood would run for their piggy bank money when we heard the melodious sounds of the ice cream truck.  Fortunately, the ice cream man was wise enough to drive slowly to give us time to collect our coins and get back outside.

My favorite selection was an ice cream sandwich.  Nothing ever tasted better than an ice cream sandwich on a really hot day.  Playing outside was hard work and we needed a cold treat.

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich Recipe

I haven't seen an ice cream truck in years, perhaps decades.  I never realized how much I took that ice cream truck for granted.  I sure do miss them!  Even as an adult, I imagine I would run for my piggy bank given the chance.  Since there is no ice cream truck, I need a really delicious alternative.  These homemade ice cream sandwiches might be a little more work, but they are definitely worth it!  Plus, I love the extra chocolate coating that actually reminds me of a Klondike bar, but I also want that cake brownie in my cool treat.

This Chocolate Covered Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich recipe is a wonderful homemade ice cream recipe made with brownies, ice cream and chocolate chips.   Personally, I look forward to trying different flavors of ice cream with this recipe.  My husband's favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip and I think that would be a fabulous ice cream flavor to use when making these homemade ice cream sandwiches.

Orange Sherbet Recipe

Orange Sherbet Recipe
Orange Sherbet is one of my all time favorite summer treats.  Well, actually I eat it year round, but it is especially delicious on a hot summer day, or to sooth a sore throat when hit with allergies.

Finding an Orange Sherbet Recipe was like receiving a gift at just the right time for me.  I recently had a bad encounter with tainted orange sherbet from the grocery store.  Unbeknownst to me, the brand I had purchased was believed to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.   The product had been recalled in several states, but not in my state, so it was still on the shelves being sold.  It has since been recalled here as well, but not before my purchase and subsequent reaction.

Since I actually prefer most things homemade anyway, I have to say there was definitely a silver lining to that black cloud for me.  I had never even considered making my own orange sherbet before.

Orange Sherbet Recipe

With a few really simple ingredients, in addition to real oranges, now I can make my own orange sherbet and have no fear associated with my favorite treat.

I selected to try the Orange Sherbet Recipe from A Simple Pantry first, but there are additional orange sherbet recipes listed below that you may prefer due to your own dietary preferences.  In addition to the oranges, this recipe calls for sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest, kosher salt and heavy whipping cream and can be made with or without an ice maker.

Be sure to checkout the comments on the original recipe above for recommendations by readers who desired a stronger orange taste.

If You Need an Ice Cream Maker

Many of us remember the big ice cream makers of our youth that required constant attention, adding ice and salt until the mixer slowed down and we checked to see if the ice cream was frozen enough.  Our family actually set the ice cream maker on the concrete outside and took turns overseeing the process.

However, today there is a much improved ice cream maker available.  No ice or salt required to use this baby!   Plus, it can sit on the kitchen counter without making a big mess.

Chocolate Mint Shamrock Squares

With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, I went in search of a "green" treat for my family.

I was thrilled when I discovered these Chocolate Mint Shamrock Squares by Corrinna Johnson on her site, A Sprinkle of Glitter, A Dash of Spice.

These delicious treats are pretty fast and easy to layer for a wee bit of your own magic to serve to your family and friends on St. Patrick's Day.

Since the squares are made by melting ingredients, laying them  in a baking dish and then refrigerating them until they are set, this would be a great recipe to make with kids.  After all, they will love adding the green food coloring and watching the butter and sugar turn green.

Not only are these Chocolate Mint Shamrock Squares pretty for St. Patrick's Day, they are fun to make and delicious to eat.

Grinch Fruit Snacks or Appetizers

Just in time for Christmas! These fun and healthy fruit snacks or appetizers are such to be the delight of the day and bring a smile to every face. Even the Grinch would have to smile!

What fun it would be to serve these Grinch fruit snacks at a Christmas party or for Christmas morning breakfast since the kids are always too excited to actually sit down at the table for a meal.

I have to admit myself, anything to make Christmas morning a little easier, is definitely a gift to me.

Watch out though!  I do think these Grinch fruit snacks will be "stolen away" rather quickly.  You might have to hide a few for yourself.

Maple Sugar Candy Recipe

A great recipe and a really fun food shaping suggestion

maple-sugar-candy-recipe
I have used candy molds for shaping chocolate many times, but I have never used a candy mold for shaping maple syrup :)

RedHairedRockHead shared her recipe for making maple candy and her most excellent suggestion of molding the maple candy to look like leaves.

The recipe is easy, the candy is delicious and the leaves are beautiful.  You could use these tasty leaves to decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, mixed into edible arrangements or simply as a stand alone candy treat.
